New Life for the Mighty Pillsbury A-Mill

The Pillsbury A-Mill, as it is historically known, is located on the banks of the Mississippi River in downtown Minneapolis. It is a masterpiece of industrial design that served as the largest flourmill in the world for 40 years. Built in 1881 it was placed on the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s “11 Most Endangered Places” list in 2011.

In 2015, its doors opened as the A-Mill Artist Lofts, providing 251 unique, affordable, live/work rental lofts for artists and their families. The project includes over 20,000 square feet of shared art space for the residents such as a dance studio, painting studio, performance space, multi-media studios, photography studio and more.

At a total project cost of over $175 Million, it is a single investment in supporting individual artists that is unparalleled in the nation.
